Shokler Serigraph Showing
July 22nd – July 29th, 2016
Come in to Pierre Paul between July 20th and 26th to see a show of Harry Shokler’s original serigraph prints. Have you ever wondered, what is a serigraph and how are these original silk screen prints made? This special event at Pierre Paul will help to answer these questions as we display works by this American master.
Harry Shokler (1896-1978) is a famous American Impressionist painter and a true pioneer of the art of serigraphy. He taught at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School, and his endorsement of the technique of silk screen printmaking lead to the art form’s acceptence by art authorities all over the world. Shokler wrote a book called Artists Manual for Silk Screen Printmaking in 1946 and it is used as a teaching aid today. Shokler was a member of the Silk Screen Group and served as president of the National Serigraph Society.
